Kugelgarn^® for order and quiet

Dutch aluminium wholesaler Comhan Holland, based in Uithoorn, bought a vacant office building near its headquarters with the aim of developing it into the company's new headquarters. The existing building needed to be preserved as much as possible and converted into an office location with a showroom, canteen and meeting rooms.

Comhan Holland took inspiration from an existing building in Austria, the Gantner headquarters in Schruns, and commissioned the same architects: Austrian Lang Vonier Architekten ZT GmbH.

During the renovation, the office was stripped down to the reinforced concrete skeleton and the steel structure of the roof. Openings were cut in the new thermal shell of insulated sandwich panels to illuminate the rooms behind. Above the shell, a horizontally aligned aluminium slat façade forms a building with a clear shape, using aluminium to reflect the company's industry.

Inside, there is a central area with communal areas on each floor, lit by skylights with plenty of natural light on the upper floor. The offices of the company's various departments are grouped around this zone, which consists of a kitchenette, printing and meeting rooms. The offices are visibly connected to the communal zone through glass walls, creating an open feel. Aluminium cannot be ignored in the interior of the building either; for instance, Comhan installed milled aluminium skirting boards.
