At Fabromont, we put people’s well-being at the heart of everything we do. Whether it’s the customer, the employee, the neighbour, the user or the supplier. That is why we keep environmental, economic and social aspects in mind throughout product development, manufacturing and marketing.
Ever since our foundation, we have based our product development and manufacturing on environmental, economic and social criteria. As early as the beginning of the 1990s, Fabromont, as a founding member of the Association for Sustainable Business (Ö.B.U.), championed key environmental issues within the industry. For the past ten years, Fabromont has been committed to actively reducing CO2 emissions and optimising energy efficiency through its voluntary participation in the Swiss Energy Agency for Industry’s programme. This target agreement is recognised by the federal government, the cantons and partners in the business sector.
We implement this in the areas of manufacturing, logistics, use and disposal as follows:
In manufacturing
Our manufacturing processes produce no wastewater and hardly any solid production waste. Offcuts and powdered residues are recycled in-house. Thanks to the low-emission binders (the emission properties of which have been tested in accordance with TÜV PROFiCERT Interior Premium and the Blue Angel schemes), there is hardly any exhaust air pollution even during the drying process. In line with the Swiss electricity mix, a large proportion of the electrical energy used comes from renewable sources (hydropower). Furthermore, we use natural gas instead of heating oil as a fossil fuel.
No raw materials are used or stored that could cause significant environmental damage through leakage in the event of an incident. We use spun-dyed fibres that are free from heavy metals and require no water for dyeing.
In the area of logistics (transport, storage, presentation, processing)
Our direct suppliers and our customers are all based in Europe, which results in relatively short transport distances. All sign a supplier’s declaration ruling out the use of substances of toxicological or environmental concern. With Kugelgarn®, off-cuts can be minimised compared with directional floor coverings, as it can be laid in any direction.
There are minimal transport and storage risks, as the materials are chemically inert and non-explosive.
Thanks to rolls measuring 2 x 32 running metres or modules, easy transport of the finished products to the building site is ensured. The flooring is easy to lay, as it is non-directional, dust-free and can be fixed using low-emission adhesive.
In use
Regular vacuuming with a brush attachment is sufficient for day-to-day cleaning. Neither water nor cleaning agents are required.
Our products are REACH-compliant, PVC-free and contain no substances currently classified as substances of very high concern (SVHC).
Textile floor coverings offer properties relating to thermal comfort, walkability and interior design that are utilised in many commercial settings. They possess sound-absorbing properties that can be taken into account in the context of room acoustics. The textile surface can absorb dust particles until they are removed during cleaning. We coat the backing with a low-emission adhesive. The emission characteristics are documented by recognised testing and certification schemes (TÜV PROFiCERT Interior Premium and Blue Angel).
Disposal
The long service life of Kugelgarn® helps to reduce replacement and renewal cycles.
The floor covering can be removed without causing damage; it is stripped mechanically using a stripper and remains largely dust-free in the process. Removal takes place without the use of solvents and without any risk of injury.
