The Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (HKU) is one of Europe's leading art colleges. With its courses in music, design, media and performing arts, it offers students an environment that combines creative work, intensive use of space and high functional requirements.
The decision to use Kugelgarn® as flooring was made back in early 2009. In the first stage, around 2,400 m² was laid – an area that has been continuously expanded ever since. Last summer, for example, the piano room was also newly fitted with Kugelgarn®. This represents a further step based on long-standing satisfaction with the product.
For the HKU, the search for a floor covering that was robust, easy to maintain and at the same time acoustically effective was crucial. In a conservatory in particular, a long service life is essential, as the transport of heavy and sensitive musical instruments makes it virtually impossible to replace the floor covering frequently.
Kugelgarn® impresses here with its exceptional durability, easy care, colour fastness and positive influence on room acoustics. Another important factor is that the collections remain available for decades, allowing for extensions and adjustments even after many years.
Satisfaction with the floor covering is so high that there are plans to gradually replace all areas currently covered with carpet tiles with Kugelgarn®. The installation work was carried out by the project team at Erkamp Projectservice.
