The Bern University of Applied Sciences is trialling a new working environment with a multi-space concept at its Falkenplatz and Dammweg sites in Bern. Instead of cubicles and open-plan offices, employees have access to different work and relaxation areas for specific activities.
The areas are no longer assigned to specific teams, but can be used equally by all employees. This makes it all the more important to be able to quickly and clearly identify their location and function.
Red tones are used in the co-working area to symbolise activity and dynamism. Red has a stimulating effect and supports creative processes. In the quiet working area, on the other hand, blue tones are used, which represent calm and stability. They create a calm, neutral environment and thus contribute to concentration for focused activities.
The concept was implemented in existing premises with most of the existing furniture. At Dammweg, in addition to colour-coordinated walls, the floor was used for the intended orientation: sections of the existing anthracite-coloured Kugelgarn® flooring from Fabromont could be easily cut out and replaced with coloured inlays without compromising the overall homogeneous effect.
Such simple but effective interventions turn floors and walls into visual anchors that convey the functions of the new working environment in an attractive and surprising way.
Kugelgarn® is predestined for such applications due to its cut resistance and seamless nature.
